Tires and Tire Services

New Alignment Machine!

We've got a brand new, state-of-the-art alignment machine here at Langley's, so we can do an alignment check on your vehicle in only about 10 minutes.
We can now perform alignments on vehicles with up to 24" wheels.

It's very important to perform regular tire maintenance, not just for the safety of your family, but also to ensure a long lifespan for your vehicle.  Tire balancing provides you with a smooth ride, and a tire alignment will keep you pointed in the right direction.  Your tires should be inspected regularly for damage, nails and rocks, and uneven wear.

We provide you with several name brand tires at competitive prices, including Kelly, Goodyear, and Yokohama.  The experienced mechanics at Langley's Auto are experts in providing high-quality tire services, including wheel alignment, tire installation, tire balancing, tire rotation and tire inspection.

Tire Repairs

Got a nail in your tire? It might not need to be replaced. Bring it in to Langley’s and we’ll inspect it to see what your best course of action is. Sometimes just a quick repair can get you back on the road quickly with minimal expense.

Tire Rotation and Balancing

Tire rotation is critical for your vehicle. Your front tires take the brunt of stopping and steering impact, so they wear faster than rear tires. They should be rotated regularly so that all four tires wear more evenly.

Out of balance wheels can also cause a tire to wear too fast. If you feel a vibration in your seat or steering wheel, you may have a wheel out of balance.

A heavy spot on the tire could cause it to wobble, so balancing adds weight tot he wheel to even things out. Now, we’re talking about very, very small weight differences. Variations in the tire and wheel manufacturer can cause slight imbalances. The valve stem and tire pressure monitoring sensors in the tire also play into the equation.

Winter Tires

We tend to have rough winters here in Frostburg. The rubber in summer tires becomes hard and inflexible in the cold, and they don’t grip the road well. In contrast, winter tires use special rubber compounds that are more pliable when the temps drop below 45, so even without snow, winter tires will add significantly to your cold weather safety.

The tread on winter tires is designed to clear out water, snow and slush as the tire turns, so it’s ready to take another bite when it comes back in contact with the road. They also have a lot of thin slits in the tread called sipes which help the tire grab ice and packed snow, providing extra traction. Leaving your summer tires on all year round can be dangerous because they get packed with snow, making them very slick, and your vehicle harder to control.

All-season tires are great for a wide range of weather and road conditions, but here in Frostburg, we need something a little better during winter months. Winter tires provide 25 to 50% more traction than all-season tires. And all-season tires take up to 42% longer to stop than winter tires in slick Western Maryland conditions.

All-Season Tires

The vast majority of vehicles today come with all-season tires which are designed to provide acceptable all-around capability throughout the year and in all weather conditions. That means a reasonable ride and respectable handling, quiet running, good wet-weather grip, and some capability in snow. Given their all-season designation, most car owners leave them on in winter and expect that their tires will deliver all the traction they need on snowy, icy roads. But most all-season tires are marginal in snow; dedicated winter tires, also known as snow tires, provide far better traction when the snow falls.

So while your vehicle may be equipped with stability control, anti-lock brakes and traction control, Langley’s recommends you purchase a good set of winter tires to keep good traction on our slick wintery roads. After all, this is Allegany and Garret County we’re talking about!
