Tech Tip: Get it inspected before you buy
This is the most ignored car buying advice we’ve ever seen, and it can have very expensive consequences. Bring the vehicle to us for an inspection before you agree to purchase it. If the inspection report is clean, you can buy with increased confidence - you would have to get it inspected anyway, and the inspection is good for 120 days if it passes. If the inspection reveals ugly problems, you can easily back away or negotiate a lower price to reflect the cost of repairs. You would have 30 days or 1,000 miles to fix any problems before it needs re-inspected.
About Maryland State Inspections
Maryland State Inspections are required when you purchase a used vehicle, or if you just moved to Maryland and your vehicle is registered in another state. If you just moved to Maryland, you have 60 days to register your vehicle, and you need to pass the Maryland state inspection before registering your vehicle. If you just purchased a used vehicle (or received it as a gift or inheritance), your car needs to pass the Maryland state inspection within 90 days prior to registering the vehicle.
Most inspections take around 1.5 hours after the certified mechanic starts the inspection. Depending on your vehicle, different aspects of it are checked. In general, brakes, steering, lights, exhaust, safety belts, and other crucial components are checked during the Maryland vehicle inspection. When our mechanic finishes your auto inspection, he will issue you a report that states whether or not your vehicle passed and what may or my not need to be discussed further. Our technician will go over any questions you may have, provide you with a list of repairs needed (if any), and he will also give you an estimate to have those repairs completed.
